A recent study suggested that shark research is biased towards iconic species that may not necessarily be in the greatest need for conservation measures. In the Eastern Pacific, silky sharks are among the most heavily impacted shark species. They are caught on both industrial longlines and purse seines, but little is known about their movements.

Together with our Migramar network of collaborators, Turtle Island Restoration Network has been tracking sharks at Cocos and Galapagos. They are curious creatures, and love to approach divers as you will see in this video clip.
